Default fuel filter

hey all. I was interested in changing my fuel filter today to improve gas mileage. The service department clerk said that the filter rarely needs replacing. So I paid about $100 for a fuel system service. When should I change my fuel filter?

I don't think you have one. There is a built in filter "screen" on the fuel pump I believe. It is not supposed to need replacing that I know of. You could clean it I guess.

on your 00 car, the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump, inside the tank,
like 00 Accord said, it is a screen, and supposely lasts forever,
if fuel pressure drops , that would be one of the first things i would look at to see if it is plugged ..

Yea!!! 1 less maintenance item!!!!! My car is running fine, so I'm not going to mess with it. It seems that my tranny is getting a little sloppier with the 1-2 shift when I'm flooring it ..... I "shift" around 6000 rpm's and it still hits the 7000 rpm limiter. I was ripping down the highway with a friend of my sister's and I bounced the 1-2 shift like 4 times ...... now he thinks his '94 MX6 w/ 240HP JDM motor is the same speed as G3. Not a bad run all considering ..... he has a 5 speed and 2 less doors.
