what's it do when you start it? does it run at all? If you have a timing light that's a good thing to check (like you're already doing....) let us know. Thanks for the updates

take cyl number 1 spark plug off and put your hand over the spark plug hole. Have someone turn the motor by the crank bolt untill you feel compression.

ok, i did a few things, got her running and driving. but now i've got another issue. unstable idle. it will surge from 1100-1800 and back, repeatedly to no end. sounds like a vacuum leak? no leaks. any ideas anyone?

just to verify but you hear the engine surge or just the tach is showing it? If the engine is surging first thing I'm curious about is if you set the timing. If that's done then check for vacuum leaks, no leaks, clean the EGR valve/hoses, if that's clean try adjusting your idle screw....

actually is surging, you can hear it (considering exhaust is basically non existent). timing got set at a local shop, no vacuum leaks, i figured that out when a hose latched onto my finger and when a spray down of the area showed nothing, haven't done the EGR yet, but the idle screw is closed, shouldn't idle at all.

update: damn near everything with a vacuum hose attached or attached to the upper manifold got either cleaned up or replaced, but it is still surging. could there be an ECU/electrical issue going on? it does it whether moving or not, if i ride 1st gear it will accel/decel just like idle.

take the iac valve off the old motor and put it on your new one.

i've swapped everything i could off of the old manifold onto the new one, still does the same thing? had someone say ECU but i had doubts. are there any other vacuum hoses on the bottom side of the intake manifold besides the ones that run to the black box?
