Default Quick oil question

how bad would it be if i changed the oil from conventional oil im useing now to a full synthetic blend oil? the car has 100,000 miles on it and its only seen conventional oil. would the synthetic blend prolong the life of the motor any longer? i run the car hard from time to time...so what do you guys think?

Had the engine open lately? Worth a look. If you have any reason to suspect sludge crap in there, then be careful.

Otherwise if it's clean, I don't think there's any reason to worry. I don't believe the wives-tales about "can't switch on an old engine".

yeah thats what iv been reading and what has been keeping me from changing it, my dad was the only owner of the car before it was passed down to me and he was always on top of the oil changes but the car always had conventional oil.

no i havent opened the head yet... not a task i was planning on doing soon but i guess i could give it a shot and learn.

my guess is that if the oil has been changed every 3k then the block should be clean.

Switching from conventional oil to senthetic is not dangerous, back in the day, when synthetic oil first came out it was dangerous because the seal-swell characteristics of the new synthetics were different from those of the mineral oils they replaced, but since then they have fixed the situation. But the most power increase it yeilds its 1hp w/royal purple(considered one of the best in synthetics)... Oreilleys now has a full synthetic oil change with a stp synthetic oil filter for 16.99... That is the cheapest you will find it anywhere... Otherwise look to spend 40 to 60 dollars minimum on an oil change at a service station...

K & N plus it has a 1 in. nut type setup at the end of it. You can remove/replace with a 1in. socket.

i stuck with mobil 1 syn oil and the K&N Gold filter.

put it all in today total ran up to like 46 for 5qts and the filter. not to bad. took the car for a few runs after that and everything seems to be running smooth. no leeks or anything so far. =)

also start up feels a lot smoother than before.

Next time save your money... Ive used the stp synthetic filters for a while and have never had a problem out of them... And the orillys full synthetic oil seems to be very good... My wallet loves the 17 dollar price tag, compared to the 35+ dollars it usually costs...
