Default Timing Belt on Honda Accord 1999 VTEC 1.8

I just realised that my timing belt should have been changed 4k miles ago. I just bought the car and am wondering if its urgent for me to change this belt, as right now money is tight. I lost a Rover Metro Gti when the timing belt went and the engine got screwed up, Could the same thing happen to the Honda?

Loving the Honda by the way. Best car ever.

best wishes

R

People have gone more than 4k miles over, but you're on borrowed-time. If the belt breaks, the pistons can hit the valves. Don't panic but don't waste time either.
