'06 Accord V6 -clatter, rattle, medal buzz on acceleration... ideas??
Hi, I have a 2006 Accord, V6 VTEC manual trans, and 70K miles.
My accord is having a clatter or rattle while accelerating. It happens between 1500-3500 rpms. Also when in a high gear around the same rpm range and i hit the gas. so, when the engine is under a load.
I can't find anything external that is loose or vibrating. I changed my old and no help. I thought it might be a timing chain going bad, but the VTEC has a timing belt (should have been changed at 60K, so I'm 10K overdue). Could it be clattering some how? Or perhaps something in the variable timing??
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Luke

May be due to your idler pulley, see post # 4 in this thread:

The timing belt is normally changed at 105,000 miles or 7 years, which ever comes first.

I would look under the car and trace your exhaust pipe all the way to the headers. Its possible a weld broke or there also could be something inside the muffler itself. Happens to exhausts all the time. When mine broke a weld, it only got loud enough to here the clatter at certain rpm's.
thanks for the ideas. I have a magnaflow exhaust on it. when i had the car up on the rack I could shake the exhaust and get a slight 'metallic' rattle. Was from the wire mesh covering the exhaust past the headers, and before the catalytic converter. Couldn't tell if that was the vibrating part. The idler pully video didn't sound like it... it's still silent at idle. maybe a baring starting to go bad though....
