Default 1980 Accord dies at 10 minutes, then OK after 2 minutes

Hi:

1. Starts instantly from cold (temperate Oakland, CA)

2. Dies at 10 minutes after McDonald's coffee drive-in, 1.5 miles or so

3. Backfire if crank to restart.

4. After waiting 2 minutes or so, starts OK, runs OK.

5. Repeatable in past few days. Has pooped out before from time to time. (This time I'm paying attention )

Do you think the car is complaining about having been ignored? Should I have gotten a coffee for the Honda too? Or is it some kind of electrical/igniter/coil problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

(Did check DIY section, and these forums and links to igniter diagnostics. Backfire indicates rich fuel exhaust, so probably not a fuel problem)

unplug the connector to TW sensor and try it ..

also make sure that float level in carb is ok ,, and that card is not running over ( sunk float ) ???

deserthonda:

Now that's something I wouldn't have thought of. I'll try your suggestion about the TW sensor and get back to you. Float sticking is a bit more inconvenient to test, but is possible. Car sits for days, then I drive it. Might take a few days to run these two down.

So you don't think it's the igniter, at least of first two guesses?
