Default 1990 automatic seatbelts not working

I just bought a 90 accord with the automatic seatbelts. The drivers side only works when you take the key in and out of the ignition, not when the door is opened like it should. Is this cause of a fault in the door mechanism? The fuses are fine and it works great when taking the key in and out of the ignition so I know the motor is fine. Any help would be appreciated cause I’ve been stumped.

Here is an old thread covering the subject. It can't hurt to call your local Honda dealership to find out if this is covered under warranty and is a quick phone call.

I can't find a good wiring diagram on the setup, but I found a youtube video on the subject and linked below. Looks like there is a 3-wire switch in the latch mechanism. Black is ground and open/closed grounds one wire to the control unit. If you are good with a multimeter, see if the switch is working properly either at the control unit or at the door. I'm not sure which is easier to access. You'll also want to check that the black wire has continuity to ground at the grey door connector.

I don't think the issue is with the motor, as it works, so I'd lean towards the inputs for door open/closed as the problem.

If you aren't great with a volt meter, then we can give you some specific tips.
