I have a 1991 Honda LX 4dr auto. Was driving to work and all the dash lights went out and the car died. It starts and dies immediately. No lights on the dash with key in on position. Also can't shift from park with key in on position. I checked all fuses and fusible links, all look good. Could this just be a bad ignition switch? This is my first Honda, the repair manual is really vague.

 

Sounds like the electrical part of the ignition switch.

Thanks guys, I changed both lock and tumbler and electrical switch. Works great. Chilton manual said to pull steering wheel but didn't have to. Used a 90 degree o ring pick tool to push the locking pin in to remove lock and tumbler.

You might have gotten away with replacing only the electrical part of the switch, but that depends whether the lock cylinder was worn out & loose.
