Thank you deserthonda. Great info in that article.

I have yet to test the temp at which the fans turn on PAhonda. I took a few personal down time days for the new Year. Oh btw Happy New Years every one.

For some reason I can not get an accurate reading w/my Infrared Thermometer Gun.

I get Emissivity issues trying to read the water and I don't have a Thermocouple probe to plug into my gut for acurate readings.

I'm going to try to use a meat probe to get an accurate reading

Edit:

Ok I finally got a thermocouple working w/my infrared thermometer and the fans turn on at about 206F and turn off at about 195F.

So I pulled the new Temp Sending unit from the head and put the OEM back and all was fine and reading in the middle as it should. I left the car running while I went inside to wash my hands but when I cam back out to see how things were I was back to the same problem again but this time the temp on the dash was beyond hot, it was to the moon.

Regardless of what the dash is reading the infrared thermometer was still reading temps of about 185-200F w/the fans still turning on @ 206F according to my Thermal Gun

I think I'll just go grab a few sending units and dash temp guages and swop them out until I get it working good again.

Could there be other problems other than the sending unit or the guage making the guage read higher than it actually is ?

Thank you,

Tony

The "wire" to the temp sending is a ground, so if there is a place where it could be grounding to something then that would cause it.

Thanks poorman,

Maybe I should not put any teflon tape or any pipe dope on the threads as I have been. I put one or the other but not both at same time to prevent any leaks from the threads.

I grabbed a handfull of sending units today at the junk yard and put one of them in. So far so good.

I'll see what happens w/this one. If it goes bad or the dash starts having the issue again then I'll pull this one out and put in another one w/o any thing on the threads in addition to looking for a shorted wire some where.
