94 and 97 are the same generations. i have a question though. when you drain and refil the tranny how much fluid do you put in and what kind...

please .....please tell me that you put in approximately 3 quarts of honda atf-z1 in there.

and i hope your not going to say that you have been using a dextron 3/mercon fluid

Does anyone think this may be a cooling problem? Because when the fluid is cold it shifts perfect. When the fluid gets hot, it starts slipping. Perhaps the cooling system is not cooling the transmission fluid? I will be draining the fluid and putting new coolant along with a new thermostat.

all right guys, heres an update. I got a used tranny from a 97 accord. I tried to get as much of the old fluid out of the old torque converter and along with the new 97 tranny, replaced the old junk one and it dries great now! Thanks.

I will say this, at least at the Honda dealer, they warranty the transmission for like 3 years, its a factory rebulit, you pay more , but at least you get a warranty with it. sAme goes with an engine replacement.

It sounds as if your clutches were starting to fail before you purchaced it. If thay were slipping then thay would get hot "my guess" and heat up the fluid and this would increase the wear rate on the clutches. Take a look at this web site and it shows the internals of a automatic tranny. I have seen my share of tranny failures in 20 years and this is often a culprit. Not changing the fluid often ie, by the mfg book only causes more wear and the clutches might not last.
