Default 1996 Accord LX: Only blows cold: Repost

Sorry, I think this is a more appropriate area (posted in DIY earlier).

How do I manually set to Hot? My Mechanic told me that my temp. switch/**** no longer operates (begining of Winter) but the core/thermostat are fine. He manually set the system to heat. The car was in an accident about a month ago and was fixed but I forgot to tell the body shop about the heat switch problem.

The system is now only blowing cold again and I think it must be reset back to heat.

This morning it was cold and the windshield was a little frosted and I couldn't get it to defrost for obvious reasons. I am by no means a mechanic but if it is simple to manually reset this could someone let me know how. I would hete to bring this back to the mechanic for a simple adjustment. I would love to be able to switch this back and forth myself.

I did a search on this found a few answers and diagrams were posted but there was no links to see the diagrams.

Anyway, an explaination on how to do this with some kind of diagram would be greatly appreciated!

When I post diagrams it's generally from www dot hondaautomotiveparts dot com.
(not allowed to do active links to non-sponsors...)

Click "Parts" then put in your car's info.

Look in "Heater Control" for the dashboard unit. There's a **** that might be broken, easy to replace. There's a cable that might be broken or disconnected.

Look in "Heater Unit" next. The cable goes down there to operate the air doors. Then there's ANOTHER cable from there out to the engine compartment. Check if that cable is broken or disconnected.

"Water Valve" shows the heater hoses & the valve where that cable goes. Operate the temperature dial to verify the cable working out at the valve.

Problem is easily fixed as Jim points out. However, you can manually set the valve by reaching the heater core valve on the firewall (below and behind the distributor). It is somewhat difficult to spot but can be reached and set by hand to either full open or full closed). I suspect this is your mechanic's procedure.

good luck
