That picture from Autozone does not look like the VSS. The autozone website isn't working right now. The other parts sites show the VSS that has three wires going to it.

You may be looking at the wrong part. If you go back to that dhost link, download the automatic transmission pdf and get to page 14-45. That shows you the location of the VSS. I know it is not easy to see. It is below the distributor.

First of all, let me apologize for my ignorance. After looking more closely, I have found the VSS and will test/replace it in the morning. Next let me express my deepest thanks to all who have responded to my postings. This is truely a great site with a tremondous amount of expertise and knowledge. Hopefully I am on my way to resolving this problem thanks to this site and the people that care enough to help and answer the mechanically challenged people like myself. Again, thank you and keep up the great work.

Cool 1996 Honda Accord EX Odometer/Speedometer circuitboard

1996 Honda Accord EX Odometer/Speedometer (O/S) circuitboard.
Ok gang, I'm the original owner, still, and my O/S has been working
intermittently (more off than on) since 250,000 miles. Its got
well over 500,000 miles (276,000+ actual) on it now (and yes, Ive mentally converted the Tach Reading to Speed myself all this time without a Moving Violation !!!), but the O/S DIDNT RECORD the miles properly.
So, I am fed up. As of September 2012, my O/S is now
working more on than off. I personally replaced the 2x brown 16wv
1000mf capacitors (C1 & C4) with new NTE 25wvDC 1000microfarads
105 degree blue capacitors, and replaced rectifier D2 on the O/S circuitboard. I am in hot pursuit to make it work 100% of the time from now on ... I will check the Zeners next ... I'll keep you posted ...
10/5/2012 post: I replaced Zener Diode ZD1 with 20v 1/2 watt, and ZD2 & ZD3 with 10v 1 watt each (both are the same rating), and Resistor R1 with a 43 ohm 2 watt. Still working more often than not, but not perfect
all the time ... yet.

Default Honda Accord 1996 speedometer not working

The general rule is that if the cruise control doesn't work, then the problem is with the VSS. If the cruise control works, then the speedometer is the problem.

The main difference between my car and yours is that my cruise control worked without any problems. I sent my speedometer to get repaired through a web search and haven't had a problem since.
just like PAhonda said I am having same exact problem in my Honda accord 1996, cruise control and everything works, but just speedometer and odometer(which show mileages on car) does not work...it work sometimes(once or twice in month)

Can anyone help me how to fix it by myself, or what would it cost to repair and where should I get it fixed.

That is the mystery.....the post above yours by onguard2shay shows that they are chasing the PCB for what is wrong. Some have cleaned the contacts and got it to work.

If you can find a woking speedo, many people swap the PCB, this keeps your milage. Or the swap the whole thing and take the milage from the one they put in.
