1996 sedan trunk torsion springs weak?
My 1996 4-door EX sedan has the two torsion springs to hold the trunk open. The springs seem weak to me, e.g. when you pop open the trunk, it will open only a few inches and stay there. I can then manually open the trunk lid the rest of the way and it will stay up, but the trunk won't open all the way on it's own.
I don't know what the behavior of these cars was when new, but I would have expected it to open completely (albeit slowly) on it's own.
I did find the adjustment are under the rear deck lid and moved it up, got a few degrees of extra twist -- which makes the trunk open a few more inches now, but still nowhere near popping completely open.
I have not been able to find any DIYs anywhere on this. Can anyone tell if the trunks should pop completely open on their own?
Thanks. John

Okay ... since it won't help to but new springs then, I added a couple of 1/8" spacers on the torsion mounts to the hinge arm to give it another several degrees of twist, and the trunk now opens completely (and slowly) on it's own when you pop the trunk from inside the car
