1999 Accord Coupe clutch bearing squeak
I have a 1999 Accord Coupe 4-cyl VTEC manual transmission with 90,000 miles. At idle in neutral with my foot off the pedals, there's a constant noticeable squeak (sounds similiar to a bird chirping). Searching for the squeak, I found that if I mash slightly with my fingers on the clutch arm where it protrudes from the side of the transmission bellhousing, the squeak goes silent. This makes me think that the problem is my clutch release bearing (throwout bearing), but I'm not sure because most of the other clutches I've experienced are designed so the release bearing only turns when the clutch pedal is depressed. In this car, does the release bearing turn all the time? In other words, does it rest against the pressure plate constantly? Does this sound like a release bearing problem?
