Well it's been a little while since I posted this so I thought I'd give an update. I cleaned the egr passageways on the plenum with no success; I put a salvage ecm on it with no success. I've noticed a pattern on which the car starts to act up which is a mystery in itself. I have to go to the doctor in Nashville each month which is 125 miles one way and hear this now. Every month when I get right at the 100 miles on my trip it STARTS to act up. Then about 100 miles on my trip back it will start again. DOESN'T make any sense. PLEASE let there be someone out here that has run into this problem so you can help me please. Thanks in advance on any replies.

When you say that you lose all power, do you lose electrical power like dash lights, radio, headlights, etc turn off? Or do you lose power from the engine?

It's getting frustrating because seems like nothing I try or do will fix my problem. This is what I've done so far with no fix: 1) put new distributor on(old one had some oil on inside), new fuel pump, new main fuel pump relay, changed ecm, new map sensor, cleaned egr passages on plenum, drained fuel tank and wiped clean, tried new egr valve. Yet nothing has fixed my problem. Can someone give me some advice on what to check now? When it acts up it's like you turn the key off and you can push down on the accelerator and it will kick back in and as long as your giving it gas it does fine but if you let off the accelerator pedal ever so slightly it will start acting up again. When it does this the engine runs rough; sounds and feels like it's running on 3 cylinders. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ecm still hasn't thrown a code? Have you checked if there was a code and the light is just not lighting up. To be honest guessing is just waisting money. Wait for a code. We can give you an idea of what parts to throw at it but nothing will be sure.

When you changed the fuel pump was it just the pump of the whole assembly?

Personally I would of changed the pump and filter maybe even the whole assembly to mark that out as a whole. I worked on a 98civic that would do that and was hard to start. I changed the filter and it solved the issue

I changed the filter when I put the new pump in. I don't have a no start issue. When it starts acting up it don't ever die it just runs rough and it's like you turned the key off until you push down on the accelerator to get it to take back hold again.

Would a bad battery cause the symptoms I'm having on my car? Just yesterday my car wouldn't start because the battery was to low. And again this morning it wouldn't start so I changed it out with a new battery. Just wondering if that could have been causing my problems? I'm grasping at straws now hoping anything I could do to fix it.
