Default 1999 Honda Accord Electrical Problem?

Hello,

New to the forum. I was driving my 1999 accord and then out of no where the car made one loud pop sound then shut off. I have no electricity in the vehicle whatsoever. Any suggestions as to what it may be? I assume its a fuse of some sort but don't know enough about these things to be 100% sure. Please help.

Do you intend to repair yourself or have repaired?

First check is to check the timing belt (TB) by removing upper timing belt cover and confirm TB is intact and timing alignment of camshaft and crankshaft. If TB broke, you likely have damage and turning engine over could cause further damage, but suppose you've already tried to restart?

If TB is intact, you can turn keyswitch to On and listen for fuel pump in fuel tank to come on and run for 2-3 secs, and cut off. If you hear that, you likely have fuel pressure/delivery.

If you have fuel delivery, next check is for spark by removing one spark plug lead, inserting old plug w/ plug grounded to engine. Turn engine over and see if any spark is present.

Post your findings for additional help.

I deleted your duplicate post. Read posting rules.

Thank you for the reply. If I can't repair it myself then I will have to have it repaired. I tried to restart the car after it shut off but there is zero electricity in the vehicle so nothing happens. Sorry about the duplicate post I didn't think my initial post was in the proper place and I am still unfamiliar with all of the forums features.

Sounds like you have either battery cable fault interrupting the power supply, or keyswitch problem interrupting power to starting and ignition circuits.

Suggest checking the battery cables for clean, corrosion-free, and tight connections.

If these are good, turn keyswitch to On and see if Alt, Oil Pressure, and Check Engine lights come on.

Post your findings for help.

good luck

I checked the battery cables connection, they are tight and corrosion free. When I tried the key switch nothing came on. The digital clock in the dash that stays running all the time is off. The car has zero electricity. Could it be a fuse of some sort?

It does sound like a fuse to me. I would start with the big 100 (or 80) amp fuse then look at the 50 amp fuse.

If you have a volt meter, you should be able to check the fuses quickly.

If a big fuse is blown, I would be more worried about why the fuse blew, because it takes a lot to blow the big fuse.
