2000 Honda Accord
Hello, I have a 2000 Accord EX 2 dr 4 cyl with 119,000 young miles. Some times it will not start. I have a new battery, timing belt, head gasket, total tuneup, water pump. Way before all this was replaced, my wife took it to work then when she was leaving it would not start. It cranks fine but would not start. I went there tried it and it would not start. After about 5 minutes it started fine, ran fine for the longest time then started all over again not starting. Whenever I took it to my mechanic he would tell me if it's not doing it theres no way to find out what the problem is. no codes are coming up. I asked if it could be the fuel pump and he said no. It either works or it don't. I even left him the car for a few days to take home too. it started every time for him. We gave this car to my daughter whos in college but she will not take it there because of this problem. She came home during Easter vacation and took it out one time and it stalled on her at a very busy intersection making a left turn. She called me and I told her to leave the flashers on and I would be there right away. I let her take my truck and I tried to start the car and it would not start. Finally it started, I turned the corner and it stalled again as I was going down the highway. After 5 minutes it started and I drove it to my mechanic again. Once again he hooked up his code reader and found nothing so he told me the same thing again. I do not know what the heck is going on but now my daughter will not take it with her nor drive it anymore for fear it's going to stall again. I went to a Honda dealership and they have no idea what the problem is. I'm puzzeled and frustrated as we feel bad for our daughter and do not know what to do. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it very much.
thank you,
thank you,

My top three suspects based upon your post.
1. Ign switch - the electrical part is prone to failure
2. Main Relay, again these do fail
3. ICM
Now to fingure out if these are the issue (or something else), testing is going to have to be done. And yes the testing can only be done when it "acts" up.
Do you own a volt meter to take some tests when the car decides to "act up"?
When the car died on you....what lights, if any, were "on" in the dash? When you tried to start it, could you hear the fuel pump prime (key to on, the pump runs for ~3 seconds), when trying to start the car was the tach moving......
Please do not replace anything on my "guess", testing is needed.

Thank you. I don't have a volt meter and i will lbe more attentive when it stalls again and look for any lights that come on, stay on, blink and i will listen if the fuel pump comes on when i turn the key on. I hope i can get this resolved before my daughter comes home from college next month and needs her car.
thanks again for the advice.
