Default 2001 Accord lagging between 1st and 2nd gear

My wifes 01 Accord LX 4 cly has been acting up when it shifts from 1st into 2nd. Sometimes it shifts a little slow and sometimes it seems like it might not shift at all. I checked the trans level and it seems to be fine and still red in color. Can someone shed some light on this for me please.

How many miles on the car?

When coming to a stop does it feel like it engages first hard? It would kinda feel like the car gets bumped from behind.

Car has 127K on it.
Comes to a stop just fine (I think). For the stop sign it will excel fine but when it goes to shift into second it pauses, then shifts (sometimes hard).
Only happens between 1st and 2nd though.

Have you ever noticed it slip? This could be the shift solenoids or the signs ur trans is on its way out

Have you changed the transmission fluid? What kind of fluid? These transmissions only like Honda ATF.

People have had harsh shifting related to using other types of ATF.

The trans fluid has never been changed as my wife says that her Dad told her to never change it, just keep it toped off. As far as sliping, no. it just acts this way between 1st and 2nd.

NO No no no no her dad was completely wrong! That may be ok on domestic transmissions but these honda transmissions need constant new fluid. every 15-30k miles (I say 20k to be safe)

At this point changing the fluid might cause complete failure. So it is up to you. However you need a new transmission.

Please don't use his advice. You NEED to service transmission fluid just like oil, power steering or brake fluid.
