Default 2001 EX Cruise control problem

I have a 2001 EX, I-4, AT, with 145,000 miles. Occasionally, when on the highway at 65-70 mph, the cruise will shut off, (kind of) and the car will downshift and decelerate. If I get on the gas pedal, it accelerates fine, but the cruise is unable to keep the car at speed. If I shut the cruise off then reset it later, it's usually fine. Any ideas?

Nope, no bumps, hills, or accidentally touching the brake pedal. Just straight driving. The downshift is what really puzzles me. It's like it's trying to maintain the cruise speed, but can't. Then, when I press the gas, it speeds up normally. Thanks for your effort, though.

I have never had to troubleshoot my CC.

I know that the speed sensor has to work properly for the CC to work. Is your check engine light on at all? Even if it is off, stop by an autozone, and have them read the code(s). Post the code on here, it will be P and four numbers, ie P1234.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong? My accord is doing that exact same thing.
