Default 2005 accord 4cyl auto wont start after battery drained

Hi,

I am out of town and my wife told me that she thinks an interior light was left on all night in her 05 accord. The car was completely non responsive when she turned the key, no clicking, no turning over, no nothing. A friend came over to try to jump it, and nothing (they did say the hazards and the horn would work, showing that some power was being received). They could not take the car out of park either. Is there some anti theft setting or something which could be causing this? It seems hard to believe that on a somewhat newer car that the battery would be toast already. Any help is greatly appreciated so I can call and help her out! Thanks! David

They need to first make sure the battery connections are clean and tight. A loose connection can cause those symptons (it has done it to me before.) Then they need to try to jump it again. Leave both cars hooked together by the jumper cables for long enough as well. The car trying to jump her off may want to try revving the engine to provide more voltage. They should be able to get it to at least crank if it is simply an electrical problem. If they get it cranked, they ned to leav the car running for quite some timebefore turning it off in orderfor the battery to get a good charge. If the car dies shortly thereafter, the alternator should be tested (free at AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts.)
