Default 2005 Accord sputters, need help soon

My engine light came on and when I give it too much gas it sputters. I can feather it and get it up to speed but I work 60 miles away and turned around. Anyone have some idea of what to look for before I take it to the dealer and spend $500???

Look to see how many spark plugs you have. The 4-cyl or the V-6 may as well have been different cars. Don't feel too bad, lots of people don't even say what YEAR their car is.

Is the check-engine light coming on? If you can get it to AutoZone or someplace like that, have them read the error code. Get the actual code number (like P1234), not just the guy's description.

Thanks for replying Jim
Ended up having the dealer check it out and they replaced the V-Tec switch & ECT sensor. Said something about the oil not getting thru somewhere. So $387 later it works. It has 174,000 highway miles on it and this is the first problem I've had. It's a 4 cyl. by the way
