Default 99 accord Ex Vtec sputters at 3900rpm

My 99 accord ex with 4 cyl vtec engine has two problems. Engine cuts out at 3900 rpm no matter if parked or in drive. Also idle is real low especially with warm engine. Replaced with Junk Yard part what I thought was Vtec solenoid. Replacment was clean. Engine idles much better but still have cutting out at 3900 rpm.

Check engine light is on? If yes, get codes and post them for help. Post the codes, not the interpretation.

good luck

Is the CEL on, are there any stored codes. Lots of ideas but if there are any codes that helps narrow down the possible answers.

Normal tune up items up to date (cap, rotor, check wires, plugs, ect). Oil in any of the spark plug tubes. Oil inside the dist.

PS. Please add your car info to your signature line.

VTEC System Malfunction

Is that code definition.

Did you just replace the solenoid or the whole assembly? What about the switch connectors. Are they clean and intact? Take off the assembly from the head. There is a screen that can become clogged. Make sure it is not clogged.

Check vtec solenoid connector and wire. On my 94 EX the wire separated from connector. I had to "hard wire" the female connector.

You can check the solenoid w/ a VOM. Resistance should be 14-30 ohms. If shorted or open, solenoid should be replaced.

good luck
