Hi, I have a 2006 Accord SE 4 cyl automatic and I having starting issues. When I turn the key all the lights come on, the radio works and it will crank twice and then stop and then there are no more sounds. i'll have to try several times before the car will eventually start. I took it to a shop where they tested the battery, alternator and starter and they said all of those are fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

 

Did they test each of these major components without checking the connections in between? This sounds like it might be a flaky connection (loose, corroded, or ??) on the wiring to the starter or at the battery posts. Some people have even found battery cables that are corroded & flaky inside their rubber insulation.

Or it might be a flaky ignition switch, but it doesn't quite fit the most common scenario. Check whether holding the key a slightly different position while cranking makes any difference - like turning the key a little bit more or less.

A definitive test would be to rig a wire connected to the small-wire connection at the starter. Watch that with a voltmeter when you try to start. Does that wire continue to have (+) battery voltage even when it stops cranking?

Be careful messing with the connections at the starter. The large bolted wire is "hot" all the time so disconnect the battery posts to avoid shorting.
