Default 2006 Honda Accord, stuck in park

As the thread says, I was fine for a day after purchasing the used Accord. Then out of the blue, I was unable to shift out of park.

We checked the fuse box, everything seemed fine. Even swapped some out for new ones just in case.

We just replaced the break switch under the break pedal. Can hear the faint click it makes so we know that is working.

Break lights wont come on...

Any other thoughts?

I just had a problem the other day not being able to shift due to the button. I would take the screws out of the shifter lever, and slowly lift the handle off holding the button because a spring is going to shoot the button out. Then use your finger on the pipe in the middle and see if it shifts correctly. The screws that hold the handle on are short and if you tighten them up too tight they push on that inner rod. You will see what I mean.

Update: I deleted this suggestion after I posted it after I reread that the brake lights were not working. I would expect you should get the lights working before you bother with physical controls. Try this after you have the lights working correctly if it still wont shift.

the manual can be found via the DIY area, https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...s-online-2498/ I found a manual through the link there. Lots of information. In the troubleshooting area step 14 it asks if the lights come on, and if they dont troubleshoot that problem. Im wondering if it is a fuse or possibly a shorted socket.
