2007 Disc Brake Change
If the auto-adjuster isn't working, then that cable adjuster isn't really going to fix it. But give it a shot.
You know how you had to twist the caliper piston to press it in? Spin it the opposite direction to get the piston out a bit more. That's similar to the action of the auto-adjuster. That might get it to start working, but don't count on it.

I removed both calipers and spun the pistons counter clockwise which of course extended them out fully. I then spun them back in until I could just slip them over the pads. I then set and reset the e-brake several times as well as started and stopped several times in the driveway with no good results.
I was able to get at the adjuster under the console though. By using a long extension and a 12mm socket I was able to reach the nut from the back of the console and underneath it. By turning it clockwise it took up slack in the cable and tightened everything up. There is no more "free play" in the e-brake handle as it starts to activate the rear calipers almost instantly upon lifting the handle. Wonder if my cable was just stretched too far? May need to replace it as I don't know how much more adjustment I can get out of the single adjustment under the console. It works as new again so thanks to those who responded for the help.
