Default 2007 honda accord rusted calipers - cannot drain brake fluid

Hey all,

I went to Honda over here for my oil change. They said I have to change my rear brake pads and ended up spending $ 290.

They also said they couldnt change the brake fluid even though its dark, as the calipers is rusty. I bought this car from a friend in Wisconsin.

When I asked for the solution they said they can change the calipers and would cost be about $ 550 including the brake fluid change.

I am a low ranking soldier in the Army and cannot afford that money unless i dont have a choice. I need a car as my work place is 6 miles away from barracks.

Is it ok to drive with the dark brake fluid? What do you think is my best for me to do?

Thank you in advance

Welcome to HAF....

Have any basis metric tools? Me, I've live my life in the south so haven't seen the rust from up there......get the old bleeders out and replace them, bleed the brakes/fluid and call it a day?

Can you drive, yes. Does the fluid need to be changed, yes.

If you don't have the tools or don't want to do this yourself....what happens if you go to a different shop (midas, firestone, ntb, ect) and ask for a brake fluid flush WITHOUT telling them what the Honda shop said?

Try something like PB Blaster but allow it to soak overnight - maybe spray some more each night & try again.

To avoid breaking off the bleeder, use a socket & hold the wrench-handle carefully so you apply pure torque with no bending.
