Default 2008 honda accord airbag light (no accident!)

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this light without taking it to the dealer to get ripped off? Or what may of caused it? I have never been in an accident with this vehicle and I tried the seat belt buckle thingy; didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated believe me.

1. The first thing that needs to be done is have the car scanned for any SRS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). That would help narrow down the possible problem. However, most regular code readers/scanners cannot read SRS DTCs. Certain scanners and shops can read SRS DTCs. There suppose to be a way to jump certain pins on the OBD-II port to get the code(s). You can search for the method via the internet and do so at your own risk.

2. If the SRS indicator stays on, but there are no DTCs stored, you can try the self-diagnostic function on the gauge control module.

If the SRS indicator comes on while in the self-diagnostic, it may be a faulty SRS unit. If the SRS indicator does not come on in the self-diagnostic, then it can be a faulty gauge control module.

The instructions for the self-diagnostic (manual method) for the gauges are:

Before doing the self-diagnostic, make sure the No. 5 (7.5A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse box and the No. 15 (10A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box are OK.

1. Push and hold the SEL/RESET switch button on the instrument gauge panel.

2. Turn the combination light switch to ON.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

4. Within 5 sec., turn the combination light switch OFF, then ON and OFF again.

5. Withing 5 sec., release the SEL/RESET switch button, and then push and release the button three times repeatedly.
