2012 2.4L engine Cold Idle
I know the idle will be fast when cold but I am not sure for how long it should stay above 1000 RPM.
The accord goes to about 1800 RPM right after start up then after a few minutes goes to about 1200 RPM.
I started driving and it seems harder to stop the car since the idle is high.
Once the engine is hot the idle does go to normal but until then it stays at 1200 RPM.
What I am concerned about is putting the car in drive when the idle is still over 1000 RPM.
How long is normal for the engine idle to be above 1000 RPM when going from cold to normal temp?

The idle should be around 800 rpm when the engine warms up. My TSX has the 2.4L engine as well, and the idle stabilizes by the time the temperature gauge is to the normal level.
Is your temperature gauge getting to about 1/3 to 1/2 up the gauge? Any recent work done on your car? Do you have a scanner that can read some live data? Is the check engine light turning on?

I just purchased the vehicle so not sure if anything had been done to it before i bought it.
I have checked everything with my scanner and all passes. No stored codes at all and all live data passes.
Some of the specific sensor data I looked at was the ECT sensors.
Once the engine is hot the idle is normal I was mostly wondering how long it should be above 1000 before going below 1000 and if it is OK to start driving it when the idle is at 1200.
Today I started engine and within a few minutes the engine went from 1500 to 1200 but then just stayed at 1200.
I let it idle for 10 minutes and was still at 1200 then finally came down to normal a few minutes later.
In the attached picture of the gauge when at the white line the engine was still at 1200 then dropped to normal when gauge was at red line.
Is all this normal and if not then what to look at?
