Default 2013 Battery Volage Sensor

I’m new to Honda, recently acquiring a 2013 Accord SS with 6 speed manual transmission. After 38 years of driving Saabs, much is different. With all these years in Saabs, I’m pretty comfortable with fixing many things myself, but information on this new Honda isn’t so easy to come by.

When we test drove the Honda, the information display showed a message something like ‘Check Charging System’. The selling dealer said it was the battery, & popped in a replacement, which shut off the message. A week later I was at our local Honda dealer to have a duplicate key made, & the tech claimed to have seen the same message. They read the code, for a princely fee, & said it was a bad battery voltage sensor mounted at the battery negative post. Another hour labor for the (5 min!) install, & we were on our way.

Does anyone know what this voltage sensor does? & would this have been a generic vs Honda-specific code? It’s #13 in the following figure-

Thanks

Isn't your vehicle still covered under warranty?

A voltage sensor detects the alternator/battery voltage. It definitely controls the battery/charging system light and likely determines the alternator output.

Beyond warranty- 72K miles
If I hadn't already been at the Honda dealer, I would have dealt with my independent mechanic.

Welcome to another Saab guy. If you think Honda tech-information is hard to find, try the last couple years of Saab's existence.

Thanks Jim-

We need a Honda Anders!

I was expecting my 2001 93SE to last forever, until investigation of a leak in the trunk uncovered a large rust hole in the wheel well.

The Accord is pretty nice- handling almost as well as my old Saab.

Yeah, Anders has helped me out a few times. Here you'll find different people expert in different ranges of years, but 2013 is still pretty new.
