86 LXI surging during decel
Hi,
I recently got an 86 Accord LXI, auto trans, 76k miles(it really was owned by a little old lady) that is exibiting odd surging of about 500 rpm (1200-1700) during deceleration. The surging is worse if the A/C is on but still there if it's off too.
As soon asI come to a stop and am idling at a standstill it stops the surging and idles around 1200 (seems highand when I put it in gear it "thunks").
The only KNOWN problem is an exhaust leak I haven't tracked down yet.
Some googling pointed to the Air Idle Control valve and/or the PCV valve. I removed the Air Idle Control valve and tested it in some boiling water. It seems to open and close fine but whether open or closed I can blow air through it and the very small orifice I couldn't get any air through. Not sure if this means anything or not. I couldn't find the PCV valve. (new to this whole honda thing!

It doesn't seem to affect anything but performance seems a *bit* sluggish and I thought whatevers causing it might be hurting mileage. During a recent trip I got around 29-32 highway.
Any input would be appreciated.

I'd seen most of that info while googling. None of it mentioned surging specifically during deceleration so I thought that info would maybe narrow it down a bit. Will try the the fast idle valve next.
