88 idling problem
This is my first post to the forum
My son has a carburated 88 accord that will not idle when cold. It has a remanufactured carburator that was replaced by our mechanic a week ago. We got the car home and the next morning it would not idle. I removed the breather and noticed the choke is closed when the car is off. As soon as the car is started, the choke opens all the way up. As long as you force the choke closed it will idle. When the car is up to operating temperature it runs great. We took the car back to the mechanic and he is saying the new carburator is bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll go along with the mechanic. Warranty on the rebuilt carb?
If the carb was old, I'd say dismantle the choke setting & opening mechanism, to figure it out & fix it. You can probably replace parts & not the whole carb.
This really belongs in General Tech, so I'll move it.

Vacuum lines to the choke pull off diaphram?
I'm thinking that some vacum line got swapped to the wrong connection somewhere.
So you could try to unhook the 2 vac lines to the choke pull off, then start the car and see if the choke closes.

Since there's a warranty, it might be easier to exchange & bolt on another one. That might be easier than fixing it. And you DID pay for that warranty.
That is... after you verify all the hoses & stuff are hooked up correctly.
