Default 91 accord TCM repeated failure

This is a follow up to 'POORMAN212' post.

I have replaced the TCM 2 times now within a apx 100,000 mile period.
The symptoms have been the same each time.
#1, it occurs when the outside temperature is hot. 75-80+ degeee. The sport light flashes and the car feels like its stuck in a higher gear. Another way to describe would be like the parking brake is on.

The first replacement TCM lasted 19 months. the second one, the one I recently sent back lasted only 7 months.

Could find much with the search button.

Any insight would be appreciated

These TCM's are known to fail w/ burnt out capacitors and diodes. If you purchased a rebuilt unit, I would complain to vendor. If a used unit, you will have to find a replacement.

Used TCU's are hard to find and rebuilt may be a better option, but higher price.

Some have managed to repair their TCU, but it is difficult job to figure out what all may be damaged.

good luck

Where i was going with "repeated" failures of the tcu's.......check the connectors to the shift and lock up solenoids.

I think this thread has many of the links in it.....https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...f-48908/page2/

Not trying to be a smart @#@ but the welcome area, well is just that.

I sent back the TCM and the vendor doesn't have a record of the purchase.

Sent in a letter and credit card statement showing purchase with the unit.

They claim it couldn't be there TCM but rather something wrong on this end.
While its possible its on this end, they appear to be giving the benifit of the doubt this time. there logic is since its the same symptoms from when it was replaced it has to be the vehicle and not the components failing first.
My guess if something goes wrong with the unit after this one they wont warranty it. Its about 16 months old, though it failed in Feb. of this year. Suppose to have a 5 year warranty.

Anyway, they said they would send out another this time.

Is this industry a numbers game, since they are almost always dealing with older vehicles, they figure the vehicle will retire before the warranty is up?
By numbers game, I mean percentage of those sent out compared to those returned for warranty.

Industry game....I'll say no. It is a game of "we have to stay in business".

If a battery is bad and "we" keep replacing alternators then costs go up or "we" go out of business.

Check the resistance across the the connectors to the solenoids....plaese.

I am going to check other related conditions. Don't really like having to have a vehicle that is immobile or taking the time to replace a part that shouldn't need to be replaced.
