Default 92 transmission problem

Hello I am having a problem with my 92 accord automatic transmission. When I come to a stop and restart the transmission does not engage right away seems like its slipping. As this is happening the D4 light flashes once. Also when I shift into reverse the D4 light comes on also and stays on.Other than those two problems the car runs fine.I already drained and changed the tranny fluid and saw nothing out of the ordinary the fluid looked fine just a little darker than the new stuff.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Check the Trans Control Unit (TCU) for codes by shorting the service check connector under the dash, beneath the glove box. When keyswitch is turned to ON, the D4 light will flash the codes. Long flash =10's digit and short flash = unit's digit. See DIY section for details. The code/s will provide best clue to nature of yourproblem.

good luck

If you haven't tried, remove BackUp Fuse in underhood fuse box for 20 secs to reset the ECU and see if any codes appear afterwards or improvement in symptoms.

Does the CEL come on for two secs and go off when keyswitch is first turned to ON? If not, ECU malfunction is indicated.

good luck

You might have to count the flashes on the TCU itself. I do not remember when the accords started having the D4 light flash.

Make sure that you actually shorted the service connector.

You should be able to use D4 or Sport Light in instrument panel(sport shift button on auto shift lever) flashes to read TCU. Not sure when sport light was discontinued, but was present on 90 Accords.

You can also pull carpet back and read the LED flashes. On 90 Accord, the LED lens is right of center in the ECU/TCU module beneath pax side carpet.

good luck
