Default 93 Honda Accord electrical issue

Here's one for you. I have a 93 Honda Accord with 268,000 miles on it. Last week it started having this problem where when I'd open my door the interior lights wouldn't come on. Then later on, they would when opening it. Now they don't at all. Also, I think the ding noise it makes when you leave your lights on after opening the door, and a few other things, like the light in the cigarette lighter isn't on anymore. I'm not sure what it could be though. Before my car was broken into, my stereo would shut off and turn itself back on in the middle of driving. That started when I crossed poles on my battery when jumping it. Luckily nothing happened with my alternator or anything like that when it happened. Sooooo, I'm thinking that all this is stemming for the crossed jump, but I dunno. Any ideas?

*Sidenote* I've also noticed when I slow down or otherwise am not pressing on the gas pedal, my headlights dim, my power inverter makes noises, and the heater doesn't blow as strong.

I would suspect you damaged the alternator w/ crossed jumper cables, possibly blown one or more rectifiers, so output voltage is reduced. I would suggest purchasing the Battery Monitor from Walmart to plug in the cigarette lighter and monitor voltage. Voltage should be 14.2 or so, w/ light load after starting in the morning, and > 12.0 w/ full electrical load. If alternator checks bad, you can purchase new rectifier and brushes for DIY installation, or get a quality rebuilt alternator.

Door light is probably sticking/intermittent switch in the door.

good luck

I have the same car with 253k and have had those problems, he's right about the door but it might just be the screw/ground on it, it's a little side-to-side switch that you can take off and clean, might do it. I had inverter, stereo and a bunch of things running and I'd notice the same with the headlights.. new battery terminals and a good ground there fixed that.. good luck.

Okay, this is weird. In regards to my interior lights not turning on, they do when the passenger door opens. So it's just my driver door, and I suspect that's causing the ding to not come on when I leave the lights on and the keys in the ignition when I open the door.
It's not noticing that the door opens.
