Default 94 high idle problem

I have been seaching the forum for about 3 days now gathering all the info I can about my problem. Before I attempt any of the proposed fixes I just have a few questions. Ok my 1994 Accord coupe idles at 3000 RPM's. We unplugged the map sensor and the car idles at 1200 RPM's. So here is my question: should I spend the money to replace the map sensor, or is it another problem?

well I don't understand it idles when the car is not moving. Doest do it by it self. Cause if that is the problem, I had the same problem with my 94 accord. Come to find put was the distributer. If u car idles by itself u should change the distributer. This cars tends to do this when the distributer is about to die.

yeah, and goes up and down.. let me ask you a question, when its idling with out u pressing the gas, does your check engine comes on. if it does, is the distributor. so take it to your mechanic asap, other wise you can have a bigger problem. it should cost you around 100 dollars to 150, it shouldnt cost you more than that..

Acctually it just holds steady at 3000 and I get no check engine light. But thanks for the help. Its just another thing Ill have to give consideration to while diagnosing the problem.

I think I've put something in the DIY section about setting your BASE idle. Try that.
