Default 95 honda intake ?

ok i have a 95 honda accord 4 cyl. and one day when i was toping off the oil, i looked at the air intake, and i could not grasp why it was designed the way it was. I've changed it to a custom cold air, I built myself sence then, but im still curious as to why the stock intake was designed the way it was any ideas? cuz i just don't get it. it seemed to restrict so much air its not funny.

Intake is designed to minimize air flow resonance noise (reason for the chamber). It is also designed for engine efficiency. Sometimes the way something looks is not a good indicator of functional excellence.

good luck

There's a resonating chamber to reduce noise. US DOT rules have a limit on intake noise, just like the limits on exhaust noise.
