Default 96 cigarette lighter self destructed

My daughters '96 LX blew the radio & lighter fuse. Upon investigation I find the lighter assemble totally unscrewedd itself and fell apart. The hot lead was touching the screw shell, explaining the blown fuse.

I insulated the hot lead for now so I can replace the fuse. My problem is I can't see how to diassemble the console/dash to re-assemble the lighter. I was fairly easy to do on a '91-93 Accord. Just a few screws and the console was off.

How do I get at it?

Rich

you have to take out the console between the seats. In the compartment below the arm rest, remove the cover and remove screws. There are also some screws under the cup holder. Slide that part back and out of the way.

There are two screws holding the bezel in place. Remove those and the ash tray. There may be a screw behind the ashtray too, That black bezel will pop out. Disconnect the hazard switch, clock, etc.

Here's your Top Tech Tip of the Day [sm=smiley20.gif]
When it is all apart and you screw the shroud part back on as tight as possible, take a pair of dykes[wire cutters] and make a crimp in the last thread towards the end near the wireconnection. That unit will never unscrew itself again.

Before you reassemble everything verify continuity thru the thermal link. [round white plastic connector]
If the thermal link has popped off you can open that plastic case and resolder the internal connection.

Mission accomplished!

It was pretty much as you described.

Thanks
