Default 97 tranny

I just bought my daughter a 97 accord, 4 banger and auto, I was wondering if the tranny shifts hard normally or is it something to get looked at. It doesn't slip or anything and if you ease the throttle up it shifts fine, but if you are on the gas a bit it shifts hard through the gears.

What trim level is it? Mine is an LX and seems to shift harder than other cars. Hard shifts are actually easier on a transmission though and extend their lives.

drain and fill plus 1 can of lube guard for imports. IF there is no evidence of a trans fluid change use a machine that allows the pump in your transmission change out the fluid with NEW HONDA ATF FLUID plus 1 can of lube guard for imports. Those transmission do shift quite firm and the new fluid and lube guard will get it back to where it should be provided that there is nothing mechanically wrong with the transmission. I had a '94 that I sold at 146K and new owner has 150K on it now.

Unfortunately it is true with the older accords, they DO shift firmer as they age and the lube guard and fluid change works as advertised. I had a 94 that shifted fairly hard when i got it at 87K miles and I found that advice and followed it and the problem was gone within a few miles....
