98 Accord start up problems
I just looked too without any luck. I'm starting a cleanup campaign on the DIY board, to make this stuff easier to find.
The EGR valve is #13. Check for carbon build-up in the hole underneath the EGR valve.

I'm not sure, but I think beginning in 1998 the EGR ports are not the same small restrictive passageways so they're not as difficult to clean. Or not as likely to plug up.
The EGR passageway goes from the valve over to the intake manifold gasket, to an opening you can see at the lower right of the gasket. I'm not real sure how it goes from there to each intake port. Hopefully it doesn't require you to remove the intake manifold.

So today I ran a few errands and after my first stop, I tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. Normally I can give it some gas and it will start up reluctantly and then run fine when running. This time is wasn't working. After about 10 minutes and several tries, I tried it again. I gave it some gas and it started but the engine was making a sound like "womp womp womp" It kind of sounded like a helicopter. I got a little nervous so I let off the gas and the engine stopped running. I did it once again about 10 minutes later and it had the same sound but this time I held the gas at about 3k RPM for a few seconds and then the idle stabilized.
I drove straight to a mechanic and explained to him what happened. My car started right up perfectly when at the mechanics. I started up the engine about 5 times and they started all 5 times perfectly normal.
I hope this can help figure out what exactly is wrong.

Your clutch has nothing to do with the engine problem. Time to find a new mechanic. I clutch is one of the most expensicve things to replace. Sounds like he is trying to make some money off of you.
If the code says there is something wrong with the EGR, you need to adres that before anything else. it will likely solve your problem.
As DH said, there is a TSB on it and a dealer may do it for free if your car is covered by the TSB. You need to call a dealer and tell them the code and give them your VIN# to see if your car is covered under the TSB.
