Default 99 accord 5speed won't go into gear

Hey guys I have a 99 accord 5 speed with the f23. I was thinking it was my clutch but now I can push the shifter into any slot for any gear and just do circles with no resistance. The only gears I can get it to accually go in is second and third. I could go into reverse but this morning I tryed and it won't go in, and what confuses me is that I can run through the gears( with car running) and it doesn't grind or go in. I could really use the help thank you guys.

Not totally following you but....

Is is possible one of the cables has come loose or broken....watch the cables at the trans when someone works through the gears.

Thank you I'll try that today but I'll rephrase the problem I can put the shift **** in fifth gear and slide it to the left straight to first like there is no stops between gears it kind of like they moved or something

All manuals I have operated will shift smoother to first or reverse, if a high gear is first engaged (w/o clutch release).

good luck

Thanks and no it won't go in first (with clutch engaged or not) . And I found that the shift cable looks as if it had been nawed through by a beaver

Ahhh.....critters in/under a car can be a pian. Depending on the "critter" and sourdings, I plan my "revenge"........ a .177, .22, .30-06, .32 and then I could go with a few shotguns. It is my right and sorry for going off-topic.

If one of the cables has "damage", it would be suspect. I would go ahead and pull the console around the shifter and inspect that area as well - there are a few bushings and washers in there that could also be giving issues.

If the bushings and that look good. I might look into a replacement cable(s) - new might get pricey a bone yard might net you something (www dot car-part dot com is a good start).

Let us know what you find and where you decide to go.....and last, how it works out in the end.

I've had cottontail damage to sensor and spark plug wires.
unknown rodent damage to sensor wire, suspect mouse culprits.

never had chew thru shift cable. luck. drive your car more often.
If I let mine sit for more than 10 days outside I figure I'm risking chew attack.

suggested to put moth ***** in sock and place in engine compartment; don't know if works.
