I have a 99 Accord (4 cyl). While driving, the heat/cool air controls switches off and on randomly (lights on the air flow control buttons go out). The fan keeps running on throwing hot air if it was set on heat before the controls die. However if the setting was on cold, the A/C turn off. Sometimes it feels like there is a loose connection which is making this happen.
Please advice.

 

Does this have auto hvac or manual hvac?

Most likely you need to replace the HVAC unit, unless you are good at finding and repairing bad solder joints on a circuit board. They can be had on ebay last I checked for $50 to $75.

For the unit, you can check bone yards (car-part dot com ?) or e-bay and that.

There is a somewhat common issue with these that some have fixed....please read this and see if it matches up to the issue(s) you are having.
