Synthetic oils are simply more slippery than regular oils so if you have old seals they are a little bit more likely to slip past, as well as for having thinner weight oils will allow it to slip past.
If you have replaced all your timing seals and your rear main seal there is really no reason not to use synthetic oils. They are easier on your engine.

Also an urban legend, there is zero difference between the lubricity of conventional oil, Group III, Group IV, and Group V synthetics.
