That is the lower half of the heat shield that goes around the catalytic converter

Been hearing a "rattle" in the car recently?

EDIT: For now, yes just get it off......

Well they didn't add it just for no reason.

Ok, a bit if a debate and depends on many factors........ever seen the actual temps that can come off of those, then park over some "somewhat dry grass".....might not be a good day.

Now is it something that "has to be fixed now", no. I would look into having it taken care of as soon as you can.

Again, just my opinion and I'm sure many folks - even some repair shops - will say don't worry about it.

I'll add one other reason to install a new one.

That shield protect the catalytic converter from getting hit by debris on the road. The price of a new converter is well over $500 from Honda.

It looks like the leading edges of that shield are peeled back & damaged by dragging along the ground.

If you catch it sooner, you can usually fasten it back with some amount of clever arrangement of large washers on the mounting bolts, or even some hose clamps.

I got a plastic bag stuck to mine from the freeway. Eventually got the bag off and had it cleaned. It's 2 months later and it still smells like burning crayons.

Yup, def get that put back on when you get the chance.
