I have a 2004 accord with V6 engine 212k miles. Tranny is sticking when it’s cold and you’re going slow, like 10 mph and you coast, it’s hesitant sometimes to downshift in the coast so I thought I’d put some Lucas in there. I do get my fluid changed like every 20k miles. How much Lucas would you recommend putting in there so as not to overfill it? The bottle is 24oz but putting the entire bottle in seems like too much. The tranny fluid smells normal not burnt or anything and I had it rebuilt at 142k miles.

 

The fist item to try is scan for codes to see if the PCM detects and electronic problem controlling the transmission vs something hydraulic/mechanical that would require a rebuild/replace.

I'm not a huge fan of additives to fix a problem. The lucas oil site says to drain the transmission fluid, add the 24 oz, then top off with transmission fluid. Definitely use Honda ATF or something aftermarket designed for Honda transmissions. Honda transmissions are picky for fluid. I'd do that procedure and look at the drained fluid to see if you have a ton of debris or metal shavings. I'd expect the transmission to last longer than 80K on a good rebuild and hope the root cause is something simple that can be replaced without a rebuild.
