Parts 18 and 19 in the following diagram:



... are entitled "air intake tube" and "air intake tube cover" and are missing on my car from the previous owner. New parts are ~$35 and I can't find them used anywhere. If they have a real purpose I will buy new ones.

Does anyone know what these parts do?

It's a battery vent tube, to provide fresh air to help disperse gas from the battery as most batteries (even sealed ones) vent gases.
