Default Battery light on, now car won't start

Hello,

I started the car and noticed a weak crank. I then tuned on the wipers and notice they moved very slowly. I looked at the dash and noticed the battery light was on though faint and steady. Though faint I believe as I accelerated the light just about turned off.

I was able to make it home. I turned off the car but couldn't get it started again. In the accessory position the dash lights on normally and the headlights. When I crank it I hear a wear crank then all lights go off or a clicking sound.

The battery is new and the original starter motor motor was rebuilt about 3 years ago.

The indicator with the battery symbol is for the charging system. It may be due to a faulty alternator or a cable issue.

I'm borrowing a battery charger to charge up my battery. This charger checks for faulty batteries. If this thing checks the battery ok and I'm able to crank my car I can say it's the alternator.

Those Denso alternators are expensive. I've read posts of problems with some after market alternators. Any recommends or recommends to stay away from?

Thanks for looking and replying.

Denso are one of the best. Sometimes, the Denso alternator just have worn brushes. A brush pack is relatively easy to replace and about $30.

Yep, Denso builds tough stuff. My original started motor was rebuilt just some years ago. My car is now about 18 years old.

I received the battery charger, Vector smart charger and started charging the battery. What it is giving me in the earlier stages is the battery maybe sulfated.

I looked this up and it is conditions that occurs when the battery is not properly charged. If the code for this sulfated condition does not disappear in a couple of hours then the battery is toast. Likely it is still under warranty. SO everything is point to a bad alternator that took out the battery.

PS
I forgot to mention, Since about yesterday I've been hearing a low whining sound. Not like that of wet belt. Wonder if that is related to the alternator.

This battery charger I used if unable to get by the sulfate code will not allow you to charge the battery. I borrowed a regular charger and was able to charge the battery enough to start the car though the battery light still came on and still dimly lit.

I got the alternator replaced and the battery light went out. Had the battery tested and it was fine. The whining sound was associated with the old defective alternator.

Thanks for all the help.
