so, my 2000 2 door V6 suddenly has a brake light indicator problem.

Basically, when I turn the car on, the brake indicator will stay on (even though I don't use my emergency brake) When I start to get up to like 30mph, and tap on my brake, the indicator will go off, sometimes it takes a couple times, or within several minutes after braking several times, it usually goes off, and stays off, but has come back on several times.

Checked the fluid levels, they are totally fine.

Ideas?

Try moving the float up and down - it could be stuck.

There was a problem with an O-ring in the MC that a tech mentioned on here about a year ago. I ned to see if I can find one of the threads.
The same thing happens on my 2000 4cyl when it is cold outside.

 

I'll have to check the floater at lunch. Didn't think to look at that.

 

There's an idiot light labeled BRAKE.
There's a different one labeled BRAKE LAMPS.
Which one is it??

BRAKE LAMP warning is for burned-out bulbs in the taillamp cluster. Sometimes that can be triggered by bulbs that don't exactly match wattage side-to-side.

If it's the BRAKE warning, check the float like Jon said. It's not an O-ring, I'm pretty sure it's the mesh basket/filter inside the reservoir that warps & hangs up the float.

 

You're right. It's an "updated filter" inside the MC. It has something to do with the pressure inside being abnormal from the old filter. HondatechAV6 posted a DIY of how to "upgrade" your old one with a pair of pruning shears, but I can't find it anywhere.

 

yeah, its the brake one for the floater, or when the emergency brake is on, not the one for a light being out. I didn't have time to check the floater as I just left work. I'll check and play with it tomorrow.
