I've had the pedal act like that, and for me it was incomplete bleeding. I would get nice fluid out of the bleeders, so I though I was done. But after getting a soft pedal, I went back and tried some more. Got nice fluid for a bit, then finally the last air bubbles come out & THEN it was good.

I''m throwing the towel in and gonna limp it to a mechanic. I hate giving up on something I know I can fix. There's gotta be something I'm missing. Unless I got 2 bad master cylinders, or missing a ballooned hose somewhere. Which is possible, I guess. I can only go over the same process over and over again.

I can almost assure you that mechanic will run the same ground you have. Unless it turns out to be inadequate bleeding, he will want to repalce MC.

good luck

You're probably right. I've read plenty about inadequate bleeding. And people bleeding over and over and that seemed to work. He did ask what MC I installed and said they were remanufactured. I now know that Cardone is cheap Chinese junk. My son just drove it to the shop for me. He had a close call when some idiot ran a stop sign right in front of him.

Just me but Newton and I have bled brakes for many years.....yes, it takes a while but the "slow balde penetrates the shield" - quote from a movie - "Dune".

Next thing I would check is the rear shoes. What is the travel on the e-brake?

Actually, that was one of the things I wanted to do. But I didn't find that as a resolution in any of my searches. The car was towed to my house with the ebrake engaged ( 2 miles ). The AAA driver never checked, or it was already pulled up. The ebrake would not hold the car when in gear ( automatic trans ). The handle extends all the way up with ease. The shoes themselves, didn't look that bad. But, the adjusters on both sides were maxed out. I was going to do do new shoes and adjusters, but didn't want to throw more money at it without being sure. I haven't heard from the shop yet.

Well, the mechanic got a half way decent pedal and the brakes are working. It was all labor charges $170.00 and about $5.00 in shop supplies. The front sliders were stuck and the rear adjusters were frozen. I was aware of the adjusters and I knew at least one of the slider bolts were frozen. I had one slider off last week and the other wouldn't budge for me. I didn't give the sliders much thought. I should know better than that. My screw up there. I really don't feel too bad about paying. It's all about my daughter have a safe vehicle. What's the cost of safety ? Priceless. He did advise that I replace the brake rotors, calipers, pads, and shoes soon. I'm posting because I hate it when people post a thread and never return with any results, good or bad. I've been active on two Ford Focus forums for 7 years for modified Focus'. And there are way too many threads left hanging. Thanx for all the suggestions. I'll be checking in on the forum now and then.
