Default brakes going to the floor

1990 accord, been sitting for about a year,my son and I have been slowly fixing it for him to drive. Now that we're ready to drive it,we keep losing the brakes. They work sometimes, then they go to the floor.I would appreciate any input.Pads and shoes are like new,no fluid appears to be leaking, could it possably be mastercylinder?HELP

At that age, many things could be suspect. I would inspect all the hoses and replace the fluid and bleed as a first step. The MC and brake cylinders could be in bad shape as well.

The classic difference between air in the lines vs. a bad brake master cylinder goes like this...

Air causes the pedal to go soft when you first apply the brakes. Pump them & the pedal becomes hard.

With a bad master cylinder the brake pedal is initially solid. Then it slowly & smoothly sinks to the floor. It seems worse on really hot days.

Sounds like a bad master cylinder to me.

Agreed. I just did a master on an explorer with very similar problems. Dont forget to bench bleed the new one, even though I did!
