Default Burning Rubber Smell?

I have a 93 Accord EX.

Just last week while driving to school, I began to notice this smell of burning rubber. After opening the hood, I see a small amount of white smoke coming from behind the engine block. Can someone tell me what may be the problem?

The fluids are all ok and the car isn't overheating...overall, it runs great.

Oil/grease dripping on the exhaust?

When you say "all fluids are ok" I am assuming you checked the oil.One of theonly things I can think of that would make white smoke and a smell like that would be burning oil or grease as Chiovnidca said above. Or actually burning rubber[sm=gears.gif]Any check engine lights or anything like that?

00AccordLX5spd,

Yes...I checked the oil and the coolant and they're both on level. The check engine light has been on for over a year but that's a problem with the EGR (Code 12). Because this burning rubber smelljust started last week, I don't think it's related to that check engine light.

I did a google search for this "burning rubber" smell. The common thought is that one or more of the belts may be loose...causing them to slip.

Do you think this may be the problem in my case?

Loose belts is a good thought. Check their tension & let us know...

View the belts carefully by lining up your eyes with the belts& pulleys. Look for misalignment, even if they're tight. For example, the alternator bracket is loose or bent, the alternator is sitting at a small angle not perfectly lined up, and the belt burns itself up as it rubs against therim the pulley.

I was kind of thinking it could be the belts too, but he said he saw white smoke coming from behind the block. I didn't think there were any belts back there.
Trust JimBlake and check out the belts. He knows his stuff!

Yeah, oil dripping on the exhaust seems more likely, but that was already suggested. I didn't mean for him to ignore the other things already said...
